The Team
Stuart Charnock - Branch Director
After 10 years experience working for a family firm of insurance brokers in Surrey I took the plunge in August 1981 and moved to Devon to buy a share of BJK, then known as Bernard J Knibbs Limited.
I was a director of the company doe one month short of 25 years of which 13 were as Managing Director. I now run the business as a branch of Giles Insurance Brokers who acquired the business in June 2006.
My overriding aim is to provide our clients with excellent value delivered with a professional and caring service. I am proud of the way in which my colleagues embrace this ethos.
Sally Charnock - Financial Controller
I Joined BJK in 1988 after working for a ten branch travel consultants responsible for computer and accounts control. I was appointed Finance & Admin Director to BJK in January 1990 and now responsible for Accounts, Management Reports and IT.
Lindsey Redfern - Accounts Assistant
I worked and trained in the accounting field for many years before joining BJK. A newcomer to the insurance it is my function to ensure that client and insurer monies are handled in accordance with the current regulations.
Phil Snow - Operations Manager
I have worked at BJK for 8 years as Manager of the Schemes Department. We provide insurance solutions for the voluntary sector including Youth Groups, Community Groups of all descriptions, the Community Transport movement, both National and Local Charities, as well as a broad range of community initiatives. We strive to stay at the forefront of product development in order to meet the demands and needs of these clients.
With such a broad spectrum of customers and activities everyday is interesting and always challenging. In my previous life I spent 8 years with Royal & SunAlliance as a Commercial Underwrititer.
Stephen Robinson - Deputy Operations Manager
I have worked at BJK for about 8 years and have worked in most departments. I started at BJK in Personal Lines and since then have worked in the Commercial Department, Claims, Schemes department and Systems developments; jointly setting up new systems for the Shopmobility scheme, Youth Club scheme and Youth & Community scheme. I am currently working in the Fleet department and am working on implementing a new system during my time in this department. Prior to working at BJK I worked at a couple of high street brokers for 2 years.
Naomi Holmes - Minibus Account Manager
I started in insurance 13 years ago in a small local broker, I then joined BJK in 1999 to do their motor, household and travel insurance, after 12 months I moved into the schemes department to oversee the single vehicle minibus scheme incorporating associated covers such as Public & Employers Liability and Buildings and Contents insurance. I also have an active role with the Marketing, Advertising and Website development for BJK.
Ian Musselwhite - Fleet Team Leader
I started my insurance career in 1988 with a small family run brokers called C.R Toogood & Co. Following 5 years of personal lines experience, I moved onto another small brokers in Hampshire and then onto a large independent broker in South West London, where I headed up their Commercial Department. In 2002 my family and I decided on a life changing move to North Devon where I joined BJK and their fleet department. It was the best decision I ever made as the family have settled in well and I enjoy working with everyone at BJK.
Denise Dilworth - Schemes Team
I worked in the Birmingham Insurance Market for 23 years and moved to Devon in 1998 when I joined BJK. I am part of the Charity Schemes Department where in addition to administering Youth and Community policies. I am also involved with Charity Trustee Assurance and Bonus and Excess Protection cases.
Chris Fallows - Schemes Team
I have been with BJK Insurance Brokers for 19 years and administer the Youth, Community, Voluntary and Small Charity Business together with Kirsty, Denise and Rosie.
Rosie Poole - Youth Club Scheme Administrator
After a number of years working in the Travel Industry, I made a career change and moved to BJK in 2004 to administer the Youth Club scheme. My main aim is always, to provide my clients with excellent customer service.
Kirsty Worth - Schemes Team
I started my insurance career in 1987 and have worked for various insurance brokers including a National Broker, before joining BJK in January 2005. I am the administrator for both the Shopmobility Insurance and Mobility Retailers Schemes, together with being part of the Youth and Community Team.
Rachel Snow - Claims Manager
I returned to North Devon in 2000 after spending several years in Liverpool. Here I worked for Royal & Sunalliance and CGU dealing with motor and property claims. I have been at BJK for 8 years and deal with all of the claims.
Vivian Rendell - Claims Handler
My family and I moved to the UK in 2004 from South Africa, and we are all very settled. I have worked in insurance for 14 years, from working in Insurance Companies to Brokerages. My experience has been in Life Assurance, Offshore Investments and General Insurance.
I am looking forward to working for BJK Insurance which I joined in 2006, and my main aim is to help with customer relations.
Jennifer Franks - Travel Insurance / Personal Lines
After working for 14 years in travel insurance I moved from Surrey where I was the manager of a travel claims department, to lovely North Devon, joining BJK in June 2001 and becoming responsible for the travel insurance section. I have recently also begun to provide support to the claims department.
Having completed an audio visual design course I enjoy creating workplace notices, and I am the author of the masterpiece "The BJK Blues" which, due to a slight technical problem (I can’t find anyone daft enough to sing it) has yet to be performed.
Bruce Vernon - Senior Commercial Account Handler
Joined BJK in 1988 to work in the Commercial Department, formerly with General Accident and NEM Insurance in Exeter and Plymouth. I am a Town Councillor and Trustee of Pilton United Charities - Almshouses and Housing Provision.
Cara Hobbs - Commercial Vehicles
Following a hectic move with my young family from the South East, I have been with BJK since 2003 working within the Commercial Department. Having been in the Insurance sector for the past 20 years, I have witnessed many changes in the industry and feel that BJK as Insurance Brokers offer a solid foundation for my future and the clients’ future alike
Kevin Cobbledick - Commercial Business
I started my insurance career approximately 8 years ago, when I joined a local independent insurance broker based in Devon. I was originally employed to undertake personal insurance covers, but after a few years I progressed to specialising within the commercial insurance sector. Before commencing my insurance career, I mainly worked for local high street banks. As one of the newest recruits to BJK Insurance Brokers, I am looking forward to maintaining our existing client base, and also to build on new relationships for the future.

Stuart describes us as the "oil in the engine at BJK", and without us the business would grind to a halt! We look after the post in and out, filing, stationery, scanning, typing, binding documents and reports and generally supporting our technical colleagues who are left to concentrate on looking after our client’s. If you have ever been a visitor at BJK then one of us would probably have greeted you with a smile, made you a drink or prepared your lunch!
