Youth Club Insurance Frequently Asked Questions

Q. We want to organise a Bonfire party with Fireworks. Is there any restrictions or additional premium?
A. There is no additional premium for up to 1,000 people attending (subject to adequate supervision and adherence to the Department for Business Enterprise & Regulatory Reform.

Q. What is the difference between Public Liability and Personal Accident insurance?
A. Liability insurance protects your organisation against payments of damage for accidental bodily injury to an individual or damage to the individuals property (including members of your club) caused by an act of negligence by either a leader, volunteer or member of your organisation.
Personal Accident insurance provides a stated sum of money (scale of benefit) should an accident occur to an insured person (irrespective of an individual or organisations negligence).
Q. Are the volunteers covered under Employers Liability insurance?
A. Yes, volunteers are insured under Employers Liability insurance for accidental bodily injury caused by an act of negligence by either another employee, leader or volunteer in the organisation.
Q. Why do we need Liability insurance?
A. Employers Liability is a legal requirement. Liability insurance protects the leaders, volunteers and members individually and your organisation as a whole against allegations which if proved successful could result in large payments for the organisation. There is an ever growing compensation culture and a marked increase in claim settlements.
Q. What is a Personal Accident Unit and is there a minimum premium?
A. Personal Accident is an optional cover and is for accidental injury only. Personal Accident insurance provides a sum of money or scale of benefit, which is described in units. There is a minimum premium of £21.00. Please click here for more information on Personal Accident.
Q. Do you have a list of hazardous activities?
A. Yes we have a list of activities that we class as hazardous. Please click here for a list of hazardous activities.
Q. Is football/cricket/rugby classed as a hazardous activity? If so is there a premium?
A. Clubs that play in organised matches on a weekly basis and/or belong to a league, the appropriate hazardous activity premium will be charged. For those clubs playing in a one-off tournament or casually, no additional premium is charged. For teams registered to a league, cover is restricted to those that cater for players aged 16 years and under.
Q. We are intending to run a disco to raise money is there any extra premium?
A. No additional premium is due for disco/concerts catering up to 200 members including invited guests.
Cover is subject to there being no alcohol available at the venue. Individuals that have consumed alcohol or appear to have may not be admitted. The Fire Authority must approve the venue and the numbers attending. A risk assessment must have been carried out and there must be adequate supervision at all times.

Q. We are hiring a Bouncy Castle, will there be an extra premium?
A. Bouncy Castle comes under our hazardous activity list and will incur an additional premium. Cover is subject to adequate supervision and adherence to the Bouncy Castle guidelines. The guidelines are available from www.pipa.org.uk/publicbestpractice.pdf
Q. Is Skateboarding covered under the Youth Club Scheme?
A. Specific Skateboarding Parks and clubs are excluded from the Scheme. Skateboarding is only covered as part of the clubs activities and subject to strict adherence to guidelines. There will be an additional premium as it is classed as a hazardous activity. Please click here for guidelines.
Q. We are a Gym Club and we wish to have Gym Birthday parties.
A. Under the Youth Club scheme the cover is for members only and Gym Birthday parties are excluded.
