Shopmobility Scheme Frequently Asked Questions

shopmobility scheme

Q. What happens if a user leaves a scooter or wheelchair outside a shop?

A. Provided any key is removed, and any locks/immobilisers are activated, the policy covers the theft risk.

Q. What happens if equipment is stolen from outside our premises?

A. This is covered, provided any keys are removed and your office is manned at the time.

Q. Can our equipment be used abroad?

A. Yes, provided it is covered under the ’Extended cover’ section. The policy extends to include use in Western Europe for up to 60 days per annum. Insurers have also been most helpful for users going to USA and other parts of the world.

Q. What are the security requirements for our premises?

A. Good quality 5-lever mortise deadlock to all exterior doors and key-operated locks to all openable ground-floor (or accessible) windows (see Summary of Cover for more details).

Q. How do I calculate my sums insured?

A. Buildings: should be based on re-building costs (not market value). Contents: office equipment, computers, scooters and manual and powered wheelchairs should be valued and calculated for replacement costs, as the cover is on a new-for-old basis.
Extended cover: sum insured should represent the maximum amount at any one time out on long term loan or hire (again on new-for-old basis). Goods-in-Transit: the maximum amount in transit any one load.

Q. What is ’Additional Cost of Working’?

A. This cover is included free of charge when the Material Damage section is operative. It provides cover for the additional expenditure incurred to minimise disruption and resume normal working after a fire, flood or other insured peril.

Q. Can I have the policy if I am not affiliated to NFS UK or Shopmobility Scotland?

A. No, (although it may be offered for new schemes who are in the process of affiliating).

Q. Is there any form of No Claim Bonus allowed?

A. No - see separate page for explanation.

Q. Are our fund-raising activities covered?

A. Yes - the Public Liability section of the policy automatically includes cover for non-hazardous fund-raising activities. Please refer to BJK if in doubt.

Q. I still have some questions, How can I contact BJK?
